International Animation Day is held annually in October. It was created in 2002 by the International Animation Film Association – ASIFA and is performed in more than 30 countries. In Brazil, the date was adopted in 2004 by the Associação Brasileira de Cinema – ABCA, which nationally coordinates the event with the participation of more than 200 Brazilian cities. In Goiânia, the DIA is organized and coordinated by Márcia Deretti, Márcio Júnior and Coelho Nunes through MMarte Produções and Na Toca Produções, with support from the Goiana School of Animated Design and the Municipal Law of Incentive to Culture of Goiânia. The schedule includes Children’s Shows, International Shows, National Shows, Parallel Shows (another show of Brazilian films to contemplate quality short films that are not in the main show due to the total time limit.) and in 2022 there was a special show in celebration on the 50th anniversary of the launch of the first animation in the state of Pernambuco, which was called Mostra 50 Anos de Animação Pernambucana (a program with short films from different decades. Program of about 1 hour of Brazilian short films aimed at an adult audience.). The event is non-competitive and is currently in its 19th edition.
