As partners in the activities of the Red Latinoamericana de Estudios de Animación – Sur a Sur, contributing as an extension project to the Observatório Internacional do Ensino em Animação, within the Núcleo de Design em Animação of UTFPR, our general objective is to catalog Brazilian animations, especially at festivals, so that they are appreciated and/or recognized by “Red”, thus contributing to research in Latin America on the subject. As a specific objective, research, publication and dissemination activities must be carried out.
In our first analysis, we analyzed the cataloging of the Cinemateca Brasileira, in its division of Filmografia Brasileira, managing to demonstrate the lack of terms in the controlled vocabulary that adjust to social demands, for example, the use of Indígena instead of Índio.
However, it was noticed that a way to test new terms and understand public acceptance was the use of free vocabulary. These indexes that didn’t appear before started to return values that just by the first vocabulary didn’t return.
Depending on the branch of the information science area, the way the public accesses the content matters little, from this more traditional perspective, archiving should always be neutral and sufficient, if it follows the established guidelines (Lima, 2018). On the other hand, a more critical approach questions the veracity of a neutral choice, given that several works are not classified or present in public libraries, as is the case of LGBTQIA+ films.
